Valheim Game Development Reportedly Inspired by Zelda and PS1 Graphics

Since its early access release in early February yesterday, Valheim has become a game that is so popular that it ended up going viral on Steam. The existence of the complexity of the survival simulation aspect with the theme "Viking" has really succeeded in making many players feel hooked. Not only that, if you look closely, this game also features low-poly graphics that look like games in the era of the PS1 console. Believe it or not, that coincidence was one of the main inspiration for the creation of the Valheim game.

Reported by his latest interview with PCGamesN, Richard Svensson as CEO of Iron Gate studio (developer Valheim) reported that the existence of this game was to reintroduce the form of "PS1 era graphics". In particular, it is also a form of style that is quite liked by studio crews, they are also interested in adopting a graphic style like this so that the Valheim game can be friendly to play on a PC with less luxurious specs.

In addition, these considerations also help the game asset development process that can run faster than expected. So that in the end, Iron Gate was still able to execute details of the world from Valheim which were quite neat and pleasing to the eye despite the limitations of the graphic quality it had.

Interestingly, it's not only about the graphics of the PS1 game. Svensson himself also mentioned the existence of the adventure genre and single-player games as other main inspirations. Where in particular, he mentioned that Nintendo's games like Zelda, especially from the Breath of the Wild series, are considered to provide a lot of important lessons for Valheim.

Until now, Valheim is still a game that is quite popular on Steam. With hundreds of thousands of players on average who are always online at the same time, this game has certainly succeeded in achieving a proud sales achievement of 4 million copies in the last few weeks.

Interestingly, since last March 3, the sales figure has officially increased to 5 million copies and there is probably a big chance to continue to increase to 6-7 million copies in the following weeks.
