RE Village Art Director Didn't Expect Many to Lust for Lady Dimitrescu

When the face of the main antagonist of Resident Evil Village is shown, fans and non-fans of this iconic horror franchise instantly become filled with lust. Lady Dimitrescu, a female vampire with a height of 2.9 meters, does not terrorize gamers, it makes them horny. Tomonori Takano, the art director of Capcom, admitted that he didn't expect the fans to react.

Through an interview with IGN, Takano revealed that no one expected this kind of strange reaction. He just felt confused when he saw the comment where fans were not afraid to be chased by the tall woman.

"I don't think anyone [at Capcom] can predict how interesting the fans will react to Lady Dimitrescu," Takano told IGN. "Personally, I am really surprised to see comments like, 'I want to be chased by him.'"

Takano explained that he used the same concept in this game as he did before in Resident Evil 7. For him zombies are no longer effective in providing terror. So he wants to explore a new idea where he creates monsters that are neither zombies nor humans. For him, building something new that the franchise has never done before is the best way to scare fans back. Unexpectedly, so far he has actually provoked a different desire.

Meanwhile, Dimitrescu's designs come from various inspirations ranging from Japanese mythology such as Hasshaku-sama to Morticia Addams from the classic black comedy series and film - The Addams Family.

Despite Lady Dimirescu's viral popularity, Takano explained that the whole game doesn't just focus on her and the other beautiful vampires. There are still many surprises that they deliberately don't share for now to maintain the horror sensation of the game.

"What we've shown so far - Lady Dimitrescu, village, castle - only covers a small part of Resident Evil Village," said Takano. "We have prepared many elements that make the gaming experience wider than Resident Evil 7 Biohazard."

Resident Evil Village will be released on May 7, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S.
